Does Relaxation Make You a Better Competitor and an Easier Winner?

It is that most important of all quotes that Mr. Collieron used when he said, “Those who won’t adapt, won’t lead; those who do adapt, won’t win!”

Being an athlete, you might know the importance of relaxing if not the importance.Perseverance, confidence that comes with relaxation and knowing you are prepared is probably the most important part of from-where you are to get to where you want to go.

If you set your mind and heart on getting somewhere, you can probably accomplish that. You can set goals and objectives and work hard to achieve them. But, if you don’t know what it takes to get there, how could you ever achieve it?Clear goals and objectives get you there because you have a clear plan to get there.Relaxation

Confidence that comes from relaxedness, being in the moment, and being in the zone is what will get you there. When you are relaxed, you are “alive” and are fully aware of your body. You are able to “be” in the moment. You are here now and are paying attention to the present moment. Try to be aware of each moment outside of the boxing ring or on the court.Relaxation

Being in the moment is being at one with everything, and that “thing” is that one thing you are doing or have done in that moment thatCreates the spark and the confidence that gets you to the next level. This kind of confidence is, in its own way, much more powerful than the kind that is gained by merely knowing some “rary number of techniques.”Mastering each boxing stance or counter will certainly allow you to get closer to the “edge,” but it will not get you there alone. It will allow you to get better, but it will not skyrocket your goals.

Learning 8 to 10 major skills is what will allow most people to “get to the edge” in each of the four major categories: speed, power, timing, and skills.

Each of these skills has two versions. The “Diagonal” form has two sides that are 180 degrees apart from each other. The other form has only one side that is 180 degrees from the other side. The one with the 180 degree side will be done more slowly and the one with only one side done more quickly. Which one do you want? Which do you want to do better? Do you think that is better than the other? Many people think they need to memorize separate skills and still do poorly because they don’t maximize their skills.Relaxation

If you are going to be one of the best boxers or wrestlers you are going to want to be first in each skill category. This will involve the first three phases of training: physique, muscular development, and nervous system stimulation. Developing your physique will allow you to be the best at bigger, stronger, and faster punches and kicks. Developing your muscular system will allow you to hit harder than the opponent. Nervous System Stimulation will enable you to hit harder and move faster than the opponent.Relaxation

Once you can do each aspect to the level of your training you will have an excellent beginning to any sport. Yes, one level will not be enough. There is a specific optimal level of each component that will enable you to reach your highest potential. I will talk about each one of this in the future, but if you are training currently, use this list as a checklist for you to add to your training to start experiencing success.Relaxation
